Alain a int\u00e9gr\u00e9 le laboratoire en 1994 en tant qu\u2019enseignant-chercheur INSA Toulouse, mais il ne se destinait pas forc\u00e9ment \u00e0 cette carri\u00e8re. Durant ses \u00e9tudes \u00e0 l\u2019INP-ENSEEIHT de Toulouse, Alain rencontre le Professeur Lucien Masbernat, qui lui transmet sa passion. Apr\u00e8s un service militaire enrichissant \u00e0 Palaiseau o\u00f9 il d\u00e9couvre plusieurs aspects de math\u00e9matiques appliqu\u00e9es, il s\u2019engage sur une th\u00e8se IFP<a href=\"#1\">\u00b9<\/a>, Total &amp; ELF Aquitaine \u00e0 Boussens sous la supervision de son mentor \u00e0 l\u2019IMFT.<\/p><p>Il devient ensuite charg\u00e9 de recherches CNRS en 1985, toujours \u00e0 l\u2019IMFT, mais d\u00e9cide 4 ans plus tard de devenir ma\u00eetre de conf\u00e9rences \u00e0 l\u2019INPT. Ce choix original, lui permet de trouver un \u00e9quilibre entre l\u2019imm\u00e9diatet\u00e9 de l\u2019enseignement et le travail \u00e0 plus long terme de chercheur. Alain choisit un poste de professeur \u00e0 l\u2019INSA de Toulouse en 1994 ce qui va l\u2019amener \u00e0 naviguer \u00e0 l\u2019interface de la m\u00e9canique des fluides et du g\u00e9nie des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s. Son expertise, sur les \u00e9coulements gaz et liquide, d\u2019abord appliqu\u00e9e aux activit\u00e9s p\u00e9troli\u00e8res et nucl\u00e9aires, lui permet d\u2019obtenir des financements longs et d\u2019approfondir les probl\u00e9matiques physiques d\u2019\u00e9coulements polyphasiques. En 1994, \u00e0 son arriv\u00e9e au laboratoire LIPE<a href=\"#1\">\u00b2<\/a>, il int\u00e8gre une \u00e9quipe associ\u00e9e qui travaille sur le traitement des eaux et change de domaine applicatif. Il anime alors deux grands volets : l\u2019hydrodynamique du m\u00e9lange et l\u2019hydrodynamique des colonnes \u00e0 bulles\u202f.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">For nearly a decade, he was a member of the laboratory\u2019s management team and was involved in discussions on merging the LBB\u00b3 and LIPE laboratories into a joint research unit \u2013 the Biological Systems and Process Engineering Laboratory, or LISBP (now TBI) \u2013 covering topics ranging from microorganisms to processes. Alain is proud to have played a part in making TBI the attractive, dynamic and multidisciplinary lab it is today. He was also involved in leading the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federation-fermat.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> FERMaT research federation<\/a>, which pools cutting-edge equipment for fluid mechanics and process engineering in the Toulouse region.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">For him, being a researcher is about living one\u2019s passion, embracing the unexpected and sharing knowledge. To get better, you have to be willing to fail. Alain loves projects and challenges: he continued his research during the 2009\u20132010 academic year, working part-time at Imperial College London and King\u2019s College London. He was elected to the French CNU\u2074 and joined the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) panel of experts.
